Get world-class enterprise-level support and implement MySQL best practices with MySQL Enterprise.

Communication Service Providers (CSPs) are rushing to transform their networks and systems to deliver both new and existing services at lower costs and higher agility than ever before. Survival depends on the ability to generate new revenue streams and increase Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), whilst at the same time delivering improvements in operational efficiency.
Price sensitivity, risk of vendor lock-in and the need for interoperability have driven the stampede towards standards-based hardware and open-source software for new carrier-grade systems used in converged operator networks and IT domains.
This drive to standardization extends into one of the core enablers of network convergence – the database. Whether you are looking to deploy new Web/Telco 2.0 applications to mobile users or consolidating subscriber data within the network, the database plays a key role. With the rapid shift from closed, expensive and proprietary technology, MySQL has grown to become the world's most popular open source database.
MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition has become the high-availability relational database of choice in the network domain, powering real-time, carrier-grade subscriber solutions for the likes of Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, Motorola, Nortel Networks and Telenor. MySQL Server is the database of choice for the web with deployments in some of the most prolific names on the internet including Yahoo!, Google, Flickr, YouTube and Wikipedia. As a result, no other database company can provide the products, insight or experience to marry the network and IT worlds of the Communications Service Provider.
As you balance the demands of today's telecommunications marketplace, MySQL is perfectly positioned to help you. With a combination of products co-developed with some of the world's largest suppliers to the telecommunications market, coupled with deep industry expertise and 24x7 global support, MySQL enables you to address the toughest data management challenges of the communications industry.
"MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition is a product of high quality, extremely robust and meets our demands in terms of performance and high availability. We evaluated shared-disk clustered databases but the cost would have been at least 10x more."

"Nokia is already the world leader in 3GPP Release 4 mobile softswitches, HLR, IMS, and IP multimedia solutions. And developing a single on-line subscriber register solution is the natural next step in the evolution of our register offering. With this cooperation, we join forces with MySQL to establish a winning solution for mobile and converged operators. The solution will provide greater flexibility in creating new subscriber services, enhanced capabilities for subscriber provisioning, and increased savings in operational costs."

"We decided to use MySQL for our products because we found that it had wide-spread,
proven deployments – and met our stringent reliability and scalability requirements for
the communications industry".

Virgin Mobile has implemented a MySQL Enterprise Platinum subscription to manage its data using the world's most popular open source database.
The mobile phone operator offers unlimited outgoing SMS text messages. The considerable storage and processing requirements for SMS require a highly available database management system. Over 500 gigabytes are contained in MySQL data tables, and subject to thousands of queries per second.
All applications have been developed internally at Virgin Mobile, based on a LAMP platform which ensures the operator a significant return on investment compared with a proprietary system. MySQL Enterprise also operates the CRM applications, the billing and the management of Virgin Mobile orders.
